SUSTAINING MEMBERS SHOW REPORT

Following on from last year’s tentative but successful expansion of the AGM event to include an enhanced opportunity to meet our Sustaining Members, this year the event was tackled with more confidence.

The AGM meeting itself was relocated to the light and airy environs of the Gatsby Suite from the previously used Theatre 7, while the Green Room was set up to house what we have come to refer to as the Sustaining Members Show. As last year, all the Sustaining members were offered the opportunity to display products or services to the membership. And just like last year there was considerable support for the idea.

Tables were taken by 12 companies - Akai, AMS Neve, Audio Developments, Audio Ltd, DTS, Feltech, Nagra, Richmond Film, RPS Data Products, Rycote, Sennheiser and SSL, with several others present without exhibiting. Several new products were shown for the first time and the members attending made good use of the time to become familiar with them. We were able to see a diverse range of products ranging from the first showing of the DTS DTS-6AD Cinema Processor, to Derek Jones’ Marek parabolic reflectors that are distributed through Nagra UK; Akai’s DD8 Plus digital dubber, to the full range of Sennheiser’s 3000 Series radio wireless systems. RPS had their recording media products on display while Audio Ltd had examples from their product range including an own-brand subminiature mic.

Aside from the products on show, the less obvious benefit of the event is the ability to talk to the manufacturer/distributors present in a relaxed nopressure atmosphere. This is appreciated all round and several Sustaining Members commented that this is the real reason for being there - to learn what the industry is thinking.

As last year an excellent free buffet lunch was provided for all attendees - and following several hours of discussion, was greatly appreciated.

So another successful event all round. We would encourage more members to take advantage of what is rapidly becoming the major AMPS’ event of the year. Make a note for next year.
