(JOHN WYKES CONTINUED)and compatibility studies on radio microphones which persuaded the DTI, and then the RA, to provide a legal spectrum and licensing regime for the UK entertainment industry. He was author of the CEPT Radio Microphone Handbook. In the months prior to his death he was working as technical secretary on the proposed EFSI standards for digital radio microphones. A most pleasant personality, always prepared and willing to share his knowledge and experience with those needing advice on radio microphone matters. He will be missed. MIKE DENECKE
Mike Denecke, owner of Denecke, Incorporated, Father Time, developer of the Emmy and Academy Award winning Dcode time code slates, died Sunday, March 12th while hiking in the mountains with his family. Mike Denecke was the genius honoured last year by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for his invention that changed the way the industry works. All cameras look at Denecke slates for film, television and video hundreds of times a week. During his college years, Mike studied classical guitar in France, South America, and with Andre Segovia in Spain. He started his professional career as a sound mixer, recording such artists as The Nitty, Gritty Dirt Band, and engineering Rod & John McKuens huge hit Mr Bojangles among many other hits during the 70s. He continued as a production mixer for motion pictures where he conceived of the idea for the time code slate that bears his name. Mike also worked extensively with Steve Martin, recording comedy and music albums with the Aspen Recording Society. He is survived by his wife Celis Moreno Denecke, sister Leila Denecke, his father and mother, Julia and Henry Denecke. On a personal note: Mike was a good friend who never thought harm or wished harm on anyone. We was truly a gentleman. He gave freely of his vast technical knowledge to anyone without question and would help anyone who needed help. Denecke Inc. will continue....Jimmy, Lisa and Charlie will run things very well indeed. I will help them in any way I can. What will be missing will be the brilliant new products and Father Time.
