AUSTRALIAN SCREEN SOUND GUILD'S FIRST SOUND AWARDS

Towards the end of last year, at a dinner held in the Sydney Sebel Town House Hotel, the Guild's first awards for Sound Achievement were presented by Margaret Pomeranz and producer David Hannay.

The feature film categories recognised were Best Production Sound - The Boys; Best Dialogue Editing - 'Oscar And Lucinda'; Best Sound Design and FX Editing - 'Radiance'; Best Foley - 'Les Fiddess'; Best Rerecording mixing - 'Oscar And Lucinda'.

Television categories covered commercials, documentaries, lifestyle programmes and dramas.

Additionally two Lifetime Achievement awards were presented to Ron Purvis and Peter Fenton for their contribution to Australian Motion Picture Sound over the past forty years.

The dinner was a sell-out and the night proved that screen sound comprises a fraternity of fantastic people working in an industry which is at present enjoying boom days.

It was the first time the various screen crafts have truly come together. The roaring laughter continued past dawn as the Sebel Bar soldiered into the next morning.
