AMPS encourages Full-time Students of Sound to become Members
of the Association. iv) STUDENT MEMBER. Open to individuals for the period of their enrolment in a training course specialising in a skill or skills recognised by the Council under clause (a). Applicants must declare in writing that work in a field covered in clause (a) is to be their chosen profession and must supply suitable supporting documentation from their training establishment. Any subsequent promotion to Supplementary membership will require sponsorship. Direct promotion from Student to Associate membership will not normally be allowed. Student Members possess no voting rights and attendance at AMPS functions may be limited to one place. | ||

Full Membership is awarded to Members with more than 6 years experience at the grade, entitling them to use the letters AMPS after their names. Associate Membership implies more than 3 years and less than 6 years experience in the grade. Supplementary Membership implies less than 3 years experience in the grade. Affiliate Membership is awarded to persons whose work, research and interests are closely allied to Motion Picture Sound. Honorary & Retired Membership is awarded to retired persons who during their working lives contributed to maintaining a high standard of Motion Picture Sound Recording. Sustaining Membership is awarded to Companies closely associated with the Motion Picture Sound Industry. The craft classifications Production Sound Mixer, Re-recording Mixer and Sound Editor are the titles preferred by the Association. In Television Film production, however, they are often referred to as Sound Recordist, Dubbing Mixer and Dubbing Editor respectively. The Association recognises Supervising Sound Editors as having equivalent skills to Sound Designers, a classification more commonly used in the United States. | ||
