What is your craft/grade?
I mainly do dialogue editing with random ventures into mixing, sfx editing or supervising.
How did you start in the industry?
By accident really. I did electronic music as a hobby and after compulsory eduction ended I needed to find a further place to study. It is really difficult to get to University in Finland to study hard sciences, so after several unsuccessful applications I needed a rethink. I found a BA sound design course which I applied altho it was equally difficult to get into it as it was for hard sciences. But they saw something in me and on my second year there I got introduced to film sound and that was it.
What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your career so far?
After finishing my BA in Finland I moved to UK to live with my girlfriend and tried to find any work from Cornwall where she lived at the time. We were living in a 1200 year old barn conversion which had no insulation and I tried to keep myself warm by sitting on my laptop power charger whilst applying for all sorts of jobs including leaflet distribution. However, four months later I was - to my knowledge - the only dubbing mixer in Cornwall and I was working on programs for UKTV Food. From there it's been pretty good.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
I'm always blown away when I hear my work back in the mix and how good it sounds after everything has came together. Especially the scenes which have caused a lot of headache.
What do you least enjoy about your job?
What is your proudest achievement?
Being able to carve a career in London, working with and for people who I've always looked up to.
Who would you most like to be stranded on a desert island with?
My wife and my child.
Who or what has been the biggest inspiration to your career?
I've always found most inspiration from the people around, not so much from the so called legends even if I appreciate and admire their work greatly. People close to me keep inspiring me. There are too many to list, but I need to mention Chris Roberts and David Old who have been elemental for my career.
What piece of equipment or software has made the biggest difference to your working life?
Where would you most like to be right now?
I'm pretty good where I am now thanks.
What do you consider has made the biggest impact to our business in the last five years?
Technology that doesn't cost much and gets better all the time.
What is your favourite film?
Fifth Element, Attack the Block, Role Models, Pacific Rim, Kick-Ass. I like my films stupid and loud.
What is your favourite song?
Could be Bathorys 'Gods of Thunder of Wind and of Rain' or almost any one from this playlist: http://open.spotify.com/user/jussi.honka/playlist/5fxO4ZXvqgFErTRK5RsmFS
