How to join AMPS

The Association of Motion Picture Sound is a guild of professional Sound Technicians working in Film and Television Production.  Membership is open to all technicians in this area.  There are several categories of AMPS Membership, covering all levels of experience.

These categories are:

  • FULL MEMBERSHIP - Requires a minimum of six years in a senior grade in Production Sound, Post Production Sound, Sound or Music Editing, entitling them to use the letters AMPS after their names.

  • ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP - Open to all persons employed in Motion Picture Sound with three or more years' experience in Production Sound, Post Production Sound, Sound or Music Editing.

  • SUPPLEMENTARY MEMBERSHIP - Open to all persons employed in the production of Motion Picture Sound with less than three years' service.

  • AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP - Open to persons whose work, research and interests are closely allied to Motion Picture Sound.

  • RETIRED MEMBERSHIP - Open to retired persons from the Motion Picture Sound Industry.

  • STUDENT MEMBERSHIP - AMPS encourages Full-time Students of Sound to become Members of the Association. To see if you qualify, please read Section 5 of our Constitution, available on the Website, extract included in the Membership Pack. 

  • SUSTAINING MEMBERSHIP - Open to Corporate organisations associated with the Motion Picture industry, willing to support the Association in its aims and objectives.

  • HONORARY MEMBERSHIP - Bestowed mainly upon retired persons who, during their working lives, contributed to maintaining a high standard of Motion Picture Sound Recording.

Please note that new Members are elected by the Council, based on recommendations and the quality of the supplied CV.  It is not an automatic process.

Membership Rates as of February 2006

JOINING FEE: Once only charge of £10 payable by all categories except Student and Overseas, plus:

FULL, ASSOCIATE or AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP

£50 per annum by Standing Order or Cheque

SUPPLEMENTARY MEMBERSHIP

£40 per annum by Standing Order or Cheque

RETIRED MEMBERSHIP

£35 per annum by Standing Order or Cheque

STUDENT  MEMBERSHIP

£20 per annum by Cheque only

SUSTAINING MEMBERSHIP

OVERSEAS MEMBERSHIP, OUTSIDE THE E.U.

£30 per annum, payment method to be advised.

You will be informed of the appropriate rate once your Application is successful.  In order to reduce Administration costs, all members are encouraged to make Standing Order arrangements with their Bank.  The Standing Order Form is included in the membership Pack.  Please fill it in, sign it and return in the supplied envelope to the Membership Secretary.
